Latest News on Acne: Clinical and Therapeutic Implications

18 March 2024

This Abstracts Collection provides an update on recent scientific developments in acne, with particular attention to pathogenic mechanisms, environmental and systemic factors, and emerging therapeutic approaches.

The collection reviews five scientific contributions addressing key areas of current acne research: the role of sun exposure and photoprotection; novel ultrasound-triggered microneedle strategies for bacterial infection-associated acne; the relationship between Cutibacterium acnes and the Th17 inflammatory pathway; correlations between the gut microbiota, circulating hormones and clinical features of acne; and the topical use of bakuchiol for facial acne.

Overall, the selected studies highlight the multifactorial nature of acne and the evolution toward strategies that consider not only the treatment of acne lesions, but also the skin microbiota, inflammation, the exposome, the gut–skin axis and the prevention of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
