Management of High-Risk Acute Myeloid Leukemia Patients Treated with CPX-351 and Pharmacoeconomic Considerations
This publication from the MedSpace – Hematology series explores the management of patients with high-risk acute myeloid leukemia treated with CPX-351, a liposomal formulation of cytarabine and daunorubicin, through a collection of Italian clinical experiences and an analysis of the organizational and pharmacoeconomic aspects of treatment.
The case reports describe the use of CPX-351 during induction and consolidation, with particular attention to the possibility of managing selected patients in an outpatient setting during consolidation. Treatment efficacy, tolerability, hematological toxicity, transfusion requirements and the pathway to allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation are discussed.
The publication also examines the organizational and economic impact of treatment by comparing inpatient and outpatient management and considering healthcare resource utilization. The reported experiences highlight how appropriate patient selection may allow CPX-351 consolidation to be administered in a day-hospital setting under specific clinical conditions, with potential benefits in terms of hospitalization, healthcare organization and patients’ quality of life.
